Whatsup everyone. I see we all let the site go to shit again :P
Hopefully a few of you still get to the blog every now and again... else this post is useless, but I'll give it a try. So I just got back from Cancun, Mexico a few days ago. It was AWESOME. I had such a blast, and to top it off, I got to get to know the most amazing women I've ever come across extremely well (we went together). I'll get a few pictures on the server when I have a minute to do so (I need to scan them first). Until then you'll just have to trust me. I'd also like to let everyone know that I have almost zero time to invest in desinc.net right now, so I'd like see if anyone else is motivated enough to continue moving it along (hopefully at a slightly faster than our current slower-than-snail pace). I just wrote bob, I hope that he still has some drive to move forward because he has done tons of wonderful work for the servers/site so far and without him we'd be nowhere. I know hes not too into html though, so I hope that someone will jump forward and work on (or atleast update it now and again) the website... I'll see if I cant get ahold of some of you and talk to you all about it. Well, as I let bob know, I have a good amount of hardware that I have sitting in GV that is as good as DesInc's. We just need someone(s) to get it all going. I cant sit on it anymore like I have been. I either need to move it into a storage state back in the corner of some shack in the woods, or get it into use, and like I said, I just don't have time right now, so I'm trying to see if any of you still have enough drive to move forward with our current projects or if you've all fallen into the downward spiral of eternal smokeouts :P Please let me know - you can get me at either mike(at)desinc(dot)net or (530)559-9606 Monday, January 26, 2004
Glad to see everyone posting so much.
A few updates for everyone who isn't in the loop or may have missed out: Samus (our server at NCCN.net) is pinging FAR FAR better than we have seen in the past. We used to get frequent ping spikes of ~300ms. We have heard they replaced their primary router that was way overloaded with a new one that seems to handle the traffic much better. We have already seen a lot more users joining our game servers on this box (counter-strike @ cc.desinc.net / RtCW:Enemy Territory @ et2.desinc.net). We have also heard *rumors* that NCCN is looking into a larger line (T3-ish) to replace the 3-4 T1's that host our current connection. Nort, our server in Auburn that really doesn't do anything right now, will be placed on a faster connection in the very near future (~1.5-2mbps down / ~400-600kbps upload - basically 3 T1's that are shared over a few hundred residential customers, uncapped to us - this is yet to be completely determined). We can use this server more to offload HTML traffic from samus/link and allow them to host game servers and larger files mostly. I think I will change Nort to a more fitting DesInc.Net name (NES character) - any suggestions? We have a NSV (winamp) stream running Simpsons/Futurama/Invader Zim/News Radio episodes 24/7 ... 320kbps streams (not bad for streaming video!). If you want access to this 'feature' let obrith know and he'll hook you up with the info you need to connect. This is currently only available to DesInc.Net members. I am surprised at how few people have asked for an @desinc.net e-mail account. Let people know we are fully operational again, and if they want an email account have them contact me. Again, if anyone is interested in taking a larger role in DESINC, especially in helping add content to/redesign the webpage, we are just pressed for time and have other projects we are trying to take care of with the servers. Alright, I'll get outta here now, otherwise you bums might fall asleep. And as always remember to smokeabowl for me. Later. Thursday, December 25, 2003
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Well, I got a replacement for the Dual 733 I got that was not working... Its ALOT nicer, and it works ;o) This means that when we can, we'll be replacing Link.desinc.net with the new box. The specs will be (approximately still) - Dual P3 - 733mhz 768mb ~ 1gb - PC133 ECC registered memory Dual 9.1gb SCSI HDD's, mirrored, with the OS on them. A number of 18gb SCSI drives (we'll see what we can fit) in a Raid 5 style setup. This means that Link will need a new home :) - If we should be so lucky as to get another great offer from a host. Well, as I said in the last post, ALL of our boxes are up and running. For more about them, see the info page on the main desinc.net website.
As far as game servers, the primary Counter-Strike server is up and running, just connect to 'cs.desinc.net', the pings have been very low, and stable. Our secondary (expect some small ping spikes now and then) is up at 'cc.desinc.net'. You can find stats @ cs.desinc.net for the primary server. We have a WolfET server up at 'et.desinc.net', you will eventually find stats @ et.desinc.net We could use a little help on all the html to be done. Anyone who offers will gladly be given tasks to do. If you want an @desinc.net e-mail, let us know. You can get to the webmail @ webmail.desinc.net Later. Hope we pull off a great New Years party :) Wednesday, December 10, 2003
Well, good news. The ENTIRE DesInc.net network is up and running. We have 4 solid boxes on stable connections up right now that are the primary servers...
Samus.desinc.net - @NCCN.net on 4 - T1 lines (1.544Mbps each) on a Dual P3-500, 256ram, 23GB SCSI HDD. Samus is running our primary e-mail, nameserver, and www services. Link.desinc.net - @Montereybay.com on a DS3 (45Mbps) on a P3-933, 256ram, 20GB HDD. Link is running secondary e-mail, nameserver, and www services. Bowser.desinc.net - @PacBell enhanced DSL in GV (1.5Mbps/256Kbps) on a PPro-200, 96ram, 3GB HDD. Bowser is running backup e-mail and nameserver. Nort.desinc.net - @Dual T1 via wireless link in Auburn (~2Mbps/900Kbps) on a P2-400, 128ram, 3GB/7GB HDDs. Nort is running backup e-mail and nameserver. Nort also runs other website(s). We'll get a CS server up on Link very soon. Also, look for the desinc.net webpage to return in the very near future with many new services to be popping up soon :) Also, @desinc.net e-mails are now available. They come with both pop3 access and webmail. Currently new users have a 10MB quota. Ask obrith(at)desinc.net or Mike @ AIM-"FSGObrith"/ICQ-28798552 to hook you up. Sunday, November 09, 2003
Whats up everyone? We have desinc.net back up if you haven't noticed! Hopefully it'll stay that way for a LONG time.
We will hopefully have 2 Co-Location servers on fast connections now. One at Montereybay.com (ISP) in Monterey - best of all, on a DS3 (45Mbps). Between our server in Monterey (The old DesInc.net server - P3-933Mhz, 256ram, 24gb), and its sister server (Donnie's Dual P3-650Mhz, 256ram) we'll be hosting a CS server, a Wolfenstien:ET server, HTML, E-mail, and more... This server will be known as link.desinc.net Our other server will (hopefully) be hosted back at NCCN.net (ISP) in Grass Valley. Same connection as before (4+ T1 lines), and the new box will be a Dual P3-500Mhz, 256ram, with 2 - 9.2gb SCSI drives. This server will host the secondary Desinc.net CS server, E-mail, HTML, MySQL, and more... This server will be known as samus.desinc.net We also have a nice network of FreeBSD boxes up all over the place now too... Bowser.desinc.net @ Matt's house Mario.desinc.net @ Jared's house Luigi.desinc.net @ Bob's house Fox.desinc.net @ Mike's house Donkeykong.desinc.net @ Cory's house Very soon, everyone will be able to have web space, e-mail, and much more via DesInc.net again! Contact us if you want accounts or anything specific to run on the server. Wednesday, April 09, 2003
Here lies desincs first blog. It served us well till we all forgot it even existed and went about our daily lives. Saving it was but a keystroke away, and still none of us came through. Sleep well blog, may the place you have found give you more attention then any of us ever did. |
